CRICKET

England´s national sport is Cricket. It is played on village greens and in towns on Sundays from April to August.

How to play cricket?

Teams are made up of 11 players each. They play with a small BALL and a BAT.

A WICKET consists of three wood rods pushed into the ground, with two small pieces of wood balanced on top. Two BATTERS stands in front of wickets.

A member of the opposing team (the BOWLER) throws the ball towards one of the batters, who must hit the ball so that it does not knock a wood off the wicket.

If the ball goes quite far, the two batters run between the wickers while the FIELDERS on the opposing team try to catch de ball.

The game is scored according the number of RUNS, which is the number of times the batters exchange places.

  1. Dear John,
I would like to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I still remember the summer with you and your lovely family. I am probably the only person in my town who can play cricket! and it was all thanks to you. It was very difficult to learn all the rules, but I felt great being a member of your team.

Why don't you come to my place next Christmas? You would eat "turrón" and meet my family. And I could teach you how to play football.

    Best Wishes
